Welcome to Shipyard Island Marina, Inc., located at the tip of the
Door County
Peninsula on beautiful Washington Island in Wisconsin. We are a year-
round
full-service marina offering the following
New and Used Boat Sales, Full service refurbishing and repair, Heated
and Cold
storage buildings, 70 Ton travelift, Seasonal and transit slips,
Sailor's Pub
Restaurant, Ship's Store, Lund Boat Rental, Bicycle Rental, Hand-
dipped candy
and ice-cream shop and much more.
HISTORY
Shipyard Island Marina was founded in 1921 and was considered a Ship
Yard for
Washington Island. Detroit Harbor was the setting for the luxury
ship vessels
that would deliver passengers and products to Washington Island.
Once a week
Islanders would travel to the south west of the Island to welcome
family and
friends back to the Island and pick up their packages.
As the years went by, Ship Yard changed and it became the storage
and
supply location for lumber. The storage building was built in the
1940's. In
the early 1970's Ship Yard became Hank's marina and was dedicated to
transit
slips and fishing supplies. In the late 70's the Kaniff's purchased
the Marina
and changed the name to Shipyard Island Marina. The storage building
became
the Sailor's Pub Restaurant where one could enjoy a hamburger's,
brats and
tombstone pizza's while playing billboards and darts.
In 1982, Andrew and Bonnie Munao along with their three son's,
Louis,
Andrew and Anthony and one daughter, Janette purchased the Marina and
made it a
corporation. As the years went by, the Shipyard has received a
second break
wall, heated and cold storage buildings, dedicated shop building,
Ship's Store,
candy store, additional transit slips, Boat Sales Show Room and re-
designing of
the Sailor's Pub Restaurant. Many changes have been completed in the
19 years
we have been here and many changes are yet to come |
